VOTING 
You can register to vote at one of the many conveniently located
permanent registration centers in the metro area. Registration
sites include city halls, community centers, county offices, libraries,
schools, drivers' license offices and specified agencies.
To save time and mileage, voters in both states can register by mail.
To register by mail in Missouri, request your application form from
a city or county election authority or go online for a postcard
application. Missouri registration's must be made by the fourth
Wednesday before an election.
In Kansas, a county election authority provides it for you and you can find registration applications online. Kansas applications for
registration must be postmarked by the 15th day before the election.
Application information includes your name, birthplace, birth date,
mailing address, telephone number, place of previous registration
and, in most counties, your Social Security number.

TAXES
INCOME TAXES
Both states use a graduated tax rate schedule
for individuals based on on a net taxable income.
SALES & USE TAXES
The sales tax is the total of state and local rates and
is applied to all retail purchases plus taxable services
such as utilities sold at retail to the customer.
PROPERTY TAXES (REAL ESTATE)
KANSAS
The tax is based on the apprasied fair market value of
real estate and assessed at 11.5% of value. Property tax
tax bills are due in December and May for real and
personal property.
MISSOURI
The tax is based on the apprasied market value and
assessed at 19%. Tax bills are sent after September 20th,
and taxpayers have until December 31st to pay.
PERSONAL PROPERTY
KANSAS
The state has authorized county governments to apply a
tax based on the assessed value of licensed motor vehicles,
boat motors, trailers, campers and boats. Some municipalities
and townships levy an intangibles tax.
MISSOURI
The state has authorized local governments to apply a tax
based on the actual cash value of licensed motor vehicles,
boats, motors, trailers, campers, livestock and feed.
There is no intangibles tax.
